Thoughts:

101510-0800 - Passinault: This is my issue celebrating the most influential book that I ever read. In 1993, I obtained, and consumed, a revolutionary book titled "Mondo 2000: Users guide to the new edge". My eyes have forever been opened, and what was in this book has inspired everything that I have done since.

INITIALIZING

ISSUE INTRODUCTION BY EDITOR AND PUBLISHER C. A. PASSINAULT

I had wanted to publish an issue this week about indie film reviews, but had to delay it. This is one of those weeks where I am tied up with another project.
Frontier Pop Issue 12: DJ Revolution. This issue of Frontier Pop, Mondo, will be about what inspired me to do all of this in the early 1990's. It is about one of my influences, is about what I do (and everything that I do has a purpose), and it is about what I’m going to do.
In the early 1990's, upon conclusion of my early DJ Wiz Kid days, and upon some roommates leaving, which forced me to start my life over, I did a lot of studying. In 1993, I spent a lot of time figuring exactly who it was that I had become, and spent time reading cyberpunk philosophy, and just about anything that I could get my hands on. Yes, I had talent, but I also needed skill. So, I went back to school, studied television production, worked on productions, bought more production equipment for my upcoming DJ projects, and studied during my down time.
One book that I bought was one of the most influential books that I’ve ever read. That book was a book was Mondo 2000: Users guide to the new edge. It was a large book, which served as a guidebook to some radical new concepts, all based upon past issues of the Mondo 2000 magazine.
Mondo 2000 was an unique magazine about cyberculture, hacker culture, virtual reality, media Tampa modeling portfolios, model testing, and modeling portfolio photography.pranks, packet radio, fashion, underground production, art, music, nanotechnology, robotics, fringe fashion, and a variety of other trendsetting, and interesting, subjects which were not exactly mainstream. Some of the most amazing things were in that book, among them, philosophical concepts such as the idea that ideas, facilitated through communication, were like a virus, infecting and spreading. In the downtime between DJ Wiz Kid and DJ Frontier, that book helped to give me a purpose, and to define who I would be as a DJ, and as an artist.
Today, 17 years later, Mondo 2000 is still very much a big part of my life. You could say that this publication changed my life, and that its spirit is alive and well in Frontier Pop.
The writers and contributors behind Mondo 2000 were very much aware of a future that was coming (although few saw that the future would be littered with idiots who’s moronic ways were enabled through cheap, disposable technology. Come on, people, technology was supposed to make us SMARTER. Today, technology enables mass ignorance; most people no longer think for themselves, don’t bother learning anything, and are dependent upon others. Mainstream society is in a decline, and instead of advancing society, technology is, in part, an enabler of its slide into decadence). Mondo 2000 was so far ahead of its time, in my opinion, that much of what was predicted within its pages has come to pass, or is still coming.
So, with this issue, I celebrate Mondo 2000. As time goes on, I’ll add more content to this issue of Frontier Pop, as Mondo 2000 is not longer in print, and it will take a while for me to find past issues and compile information.

Ah, an issue dedicated to Mondo 2000, in a way, but mostly to my influences and philosphy. If anyone ever needs to figure me out, this magazine and users guide is a must-read.

Passinault, you have weird tastes. I would NEVER put such crazy, insane art at the top of my pop culture site! I might have a chance after all. Bwa ha ha ha!

Tez Nutjob Tez - Posted 10/15/10: 0825

It's not art, my big buddy, unless it is old and obscure. I should know, because I am the AUTHORITY on art in Tampa Bay. To HELL with anyone who disagrees. Passinault is wrong again, with his hippy psychedelic crap! Is that guy on acid, or something? Cuddles.
