Solstice

Solstice: Current Issue, Issue 23, Volume 1, for Tuesday, December 21, 2010. New Issue published every Tuesday, and updated throughout the week. Next issue due online December 28, 2010.

 Thoughts:

122110-0803 - Passinault: This is annoying. Attempted to do a CSS code refresh on the entire Frontier Pop site to bring it up to 2011, and the files, including the backups, are corrupted (due to something that happened when I brought the format up to new standards last month. The main Frontier Pop file is not even up to what we have done, now, which is a paradox which I do not have an answer for. The file is just gone; as a last resort, I'll look for it on the server, and on the backup drives, as it is possible that it was overwritten from another folder). I now have to recode the master template layout from scratch and rebuild it, and then transplant template content from the current html files to the new template. After that is done, I then have to go through every issue and site file, make a backup, and then attach the new template to each page. Don't expect many big issues for a few weeks, as I'll be too busy working on the site. Fortunately, regardless of what happens, all of this work, and the eventual update, will be transparent to my readers. I'm just glad that this B.S. did not happen when the site became too big.

122110-0912 - Passinault: Fixed it, and have replaced the file. I didn't have to do a code transplant, after all! I just saved myself a few days of work! Frontier Pop is back at 100%, and has been updated for 2011, as well!

122110-1145 - Passinault: As soon as the support sections are complete on Frontier Pop, the links at the top of the page just above the content title (but below the cover image and the social media array) will be dramatically reduced to Frontier Society, DJ Frontier, and a few other links. This will be the only change planned for the appearance of Frontier Pop, although we will have complete continuity in the design of the past issues soon. Also, note that all past issues continue to be in play, and are updated; mostly in a subject-relevant capacity. Archived issues, in a secondary capacity, will be organized by subject in our support sections.

INITIALIZING

ISSUE INTRODUCTION BY EDITOR AND PUBLISHER C. A. PASSINAULT

It’s now winter here in sunny Tampa Bay, Florida, and it’s really cold! Being the week of Frontier Pop Issue 23: SolsticeChristmas, too, I just thought that it would be good to chill out this week, and work on some support resources.
I’m just happy, though, that I was able to fix a major issue with Frontier Pop and finally updateTampa modeling portfolios, model testing, and modeling portfolio photography. the site for 2011. What I had thought that I had to do is do a CSS template transplant by rebuilding the backbone of the site, and it would have taken days (not to mention double the size of the site, as all files would have had to be backed up).
We’re fully operational again, however! I was able to update another file and use it to bring the site current.
Currently, I’m working on a lot of content for my photography marketing sites, so this issue will be brief. Hopefully, by spring, after the photography, talent support, and Tampa Bay Film sites are brought up to speed, I’ll have more time to do what I want on Frontier Pop.

Photography Blogs Updated
That’s right! Both of my photography blogs have been updated! Check out the Tampa Photography Blog and the Tampa Photographer Blog for information on what I will be spending most of my time on in the next few weeks. I’m going to pull a Tampa Bay Film multi-site tactic, and will be deploying 10 new Venus 3 photography marketing sites in the next couple of weeks. The blogs say 9, but I’ll be including work on Tampa Looks, as well. Within a year, I’m looking at up to 16 photography marketing and support web sites!
I’m also in the process of organizing all of my blogs for SEO purposes. Once that is done, they will serve as effective search engine boosters for all of my interconnected sites.

Talent Resource Sites
After my photography marketing sites are brought up to speed in early 2011, Advanced Model, the sister site to Frontier Pop, will launch. All of my blogs will be organized. Independent Modeling will re-launch with a revamped Athena Class site, Tampa Bay Modeling will be updated with new tools and new scam-fighting resources, and Florida Modeling Career will be brought up to speed. After the modeling sites are where they need to be, the modeling job board and other support resources on Independent Modeling will be updated daily, and my web team will move on to other objectives. Independent Acting will be rebooted and relaunched, and Independent Talent Resource will also launch. Tampa Bay Acting will be overhauled, and Tampa Bay Talent will be updated with new content.

Tampa Bay Film
The next step, of course, it to add a ton of content to my array of Tampa Bay Film sites. In Tampa headshots for talent, actors, and business2010, I kind of chilled out with the eight Tampa Bay Film sites, but I should begin making indie films in 2011, after the thaw, and the sites will need to be up to spec by the end of the year to support what is coming. A lot of content is coming to the Tampa Bay Film sites in 2011, as well as a lot of underground film festivals. I have no plans to do any public film festivals in 2011, but that will change in 2012, and Tampa Bay Film will be where it needs to be by then.
Oh, and thumbs up to the Tampa Film Awards! The experiment continues.........

Frontier Pop
I know that Frontier Pop isn’t being updated with a ton of content each issue, but this will change. It’s inevitable, too, especially since Frontier Pop will tie into every web site, event, and film festival that I do. This site is my most important site, so please give it time. Also, as I brought up in an earlier issue of Frontier Pop, I have service companies which I can advertise on Frontier Pop, unlike my closest competitor, who has none (I doubt that they will get any advertisers now that they have less than five readers, and I really don’t expect to see ads for 7-11 on there soon. They are broke, their site is in shambles, and they are done, in my opinion. If they don’t try to rip off Frontier Pop when they relaunch in a few weeks, I am thinking about offering them humanitarian aid, as I do not wish to see the site go out of business. It’s a good site, with some unique content. It’s just not designed, or organized, very well. Competition or not, they need to stick around. Hell, I might even lift the boycott on them and their message board, and actually start sending people their way to breath new life into their site). This gives me a greater incentive to put a lot into this site, and it is more cost-effective for me to work on Frontier Pop than it is for them to work on their site, as they cannot recoup their costs and make money as easily as I can.

Other Things

McAfee Antivirus Issue
Yes, I’m annoyed at McAfee right now. I now have a serious issue with them.
Not only is their software annoying, behaving much like pop up adware, but they have Frontier Pop listed as a “suspicious site” because, in my opinion, it has the words “pop culture” in the content. This is B.S.! Just because a site has content about pop culture does not make it a high risk site! I know for a fact that Frontier Pop is completely safe!
Instead of being lazy about it, they should, at least, crawl the content on a site before declaring it suspicious. Frontier Pop is a simple HTML site with text, and a few emulator downloads. ALL OF THE FILES have already been certified as virus-free by a scan of said anti-virus program, so I have no clue what their problem is.
THERE ARE NO viruses or security issues with Frontier Pop. This site is safe! That’s why, even after posting a protest on their site, I’m now going to write the idiots a letter. If that doesn’t work, my attorney will be writing them a letter, as well.
Of course, their damn idiotic program did not stop malware from downloading a file from a “safe” site to my computer a few months ago and infecting it. I ended up having to completely redo my computer.
I think that I will use another antivirus program when my subscription expires. I hate McAfee! I HATE IT! IT SUCKS!
This said, lifting their annoying yellow “suspicious site” flag on Frontier Pop would go a long way toward making me happy.

Total Eclipse
Yes, I saw the eclipse this morning. It was a once in a lifetime event, as the last time that this happened on the Winter Solstice was in the early 1600's!
So, I stood out and watched the event. The cold breeze licked my face, and made it miserable. I also was not too impressed with it. I’ve seen a lot of eclipses over the years, and usually, the moon is huge and hanging low in the eastern sky. This time, it was small, bright, and directly overhead. I was so disappointed.
Also, I couldn’t help but get creeped out when, at the moment that the moon was darkened to the color of rusty blood, I realized that, somewhere, someone wearing a black hood was taking a human life in some amped-up cult ritual. Spooky!

Well, that’s it for now. On behalf of myself, and the entire staff of Frontier Pop, we wish all of our readers a merry Christmas!
